Very fun size change indeed!

Posted : 10 years, 7 months ago on 17 April 2014 06:26 (A review of Honey, I Shrunk the Kids)

Rick Moranis was possessed by ghosts in ‘Ghostbusters’, now he’s a preoccupied inventor in ‘Honey, I Shrunk The Kids’ where he creates a machine that will blow up apples but will shrink his kids and his neighbours’ kids!

‘Honey, I Shrunk The Kids’ features Moranis’ character’s kids being shrunk along with the neighbour’s kids after one of the Thompson kids accidentally hits a baseball through the window activating the shrink machine! The kids walk in and get shrunk along with a thinking couch!

The kids end up in the backyard where they have to keep walking to survive, they get splashed with the hose, ride a massive (compared to them) ant and at one point have to sleep in a LEGO brick! Very fun size change indeed!

Hilarious, frightening fun

Posted : 10 years, 7 months ago on 17 April 2014 06:21 (A review of Ghostbusters)

‘Ghostbusters’ is a very fun movie to watch, funny + scary = hilarious frightening fun!

The ghosts start where a librarian gets frightened by half invisible ghosts! This makes three unemployed and enterprising university parapsychologists played by Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd Harold Ramis team up as the Ghostbusters squad

The movie has lots of horror including a scene where Sigourney Weaver’s character’s eggs jump out the carton and she opens a door to see a hell-like doorway, it’s scary and hilarious at the same time

‘Ghostbusters’ contains charming funny performances from Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Sigourney Weaver and Rick Moranis and let’s never forget the song ‘Ghostbusters’, a scary, hilarious masterpiece

I laughed once! That's it.

Posted : 10 years, 7 months ago on 17 April 2014 03:55 (A review of The Cat in the Hat)

You may have noticed, I give a lot of kid movies 2/10, however 'The Cat In The Hat' should really not be a kid's movie, if you read my review, you will know what I'm talking about

I watched 'The Cat In The Hat' to see if it was that bad, also I was bored, at least I don’t have to waste my time watching it when there are tons of better things to do (I’d played on the Wii and the internet connection sucked) but I had low expectations on this film because everyone was saying horrible things about it, all the haters are absolutely right, the cat is creepy, ugly and unfunny, Thing 1 and Thing 2 are creepy too (in cartoons, they would look like a cartoon but here they look scary), this not fun at all trash may entertain the same audience as G-Force (very, very young children) but not suitable (at least G-Force is suitable for very, very young children)

I laughed once! That's all! Rude, crude humor unsuitable for the target audience, racist and sexual jokes and a most inappropriate scene where the Cat is pulled into the couch and you can see his bum (who the hell thought of putting these filthy, inappropriate, unfunny jokes in a kid’s movie

Also there is a scene where one of the Things lets the dog out the window and they have to chase it, they interrupt a party just as everyone comes outside to hit the pinata, the Cat then replaces the pinata with himself and gets hit in the privates, they then show you the Cat on a swing in a dress in the snow? What the hell? Just what does this movie have to do with Dr. Seuss's book? Barely any rhyming, mature content, an evil unemployed neighbor!

When the dog runs off, Cat, Conrad and Sally get chased by Larry who wants to get the dog back before they can, after he hears about it at his house, they return home to discover the house has turned into a ride thanks to the crate, the Cat references Universal Studios when they're on the ride and winks at the screen! What the hell was that?

I just wish at the party, the Cat had really been hung and suffocated and when the kids send him away because he destroyed their house, I just wish it happened at the beginning, but oh no, he comes back to clean his mess and Larry is dumped when Joan sees the clean house

In my opinion, 'The Cat In The Hat' should not be watched by anyone whose parents won’t let them watch a 12 rated movie (I bet if the BBFC had made the mistake of rating it U, the employee that rated it would’ve been fired)

It was not worth casting Alec Baldwin as he is not only obnoxious like the rest of the cast but since when does the family's neighbor have a role in the book? Also his character Larry wants to send Conrad to military school!

The acting is completely obnoxious but Mike Myers gives the worst performance for sure as the role of the creepy, annoying cat, this crap is unfunny, bland, forgettable and FOR THE LAST TIME is inappropriate for the target audience and is not worth a look at all even if you’re a die-hard fan of Dr. Seuss’s novel

P.S. By the way, did I forget to mention that they were planning a SEQUEL?! Based on 'The Cat In The Hat Comes Back'

Well due to it being so bad, Dr. Seuss's widow allowed no more live action adaptations of Dr. Seuss's work and the sequel was cancelled. Thank god for that!

Not as good as as ‘Spider-Man’ but still good

Posted : 10 years, 7 months ago on 17 April 2014 01:43 (A review of The Amazing Spider-Man)

‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ is a pretty good comeback for ‘Spider-Man’ after ‘Spider-Man 3’ was a big box office success but wasn’t very well received! ‘Spider-Man 3’ is something I enjoyed but it was nowhere near as good as the first two ‘Spider-Man’ movies. ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ was a comeback and an improvement on the third movie!

‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ was a different version of ‘Spider-Man’ and personally I thought ‘Spider-Man’ told its tale better! There were many changes here and there were some pretty boring action scenes. The costumes however were perfect as usual and the effects were also very good!

They kept the main plot of ‘Spider-Man’ where Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) is bitten by a spider and gets masses of strength and becomes Spider-Man. But it seemed odd that Peter Parker had no friends this time! In the ‘Spider-Man’ movies, his best friend is Harry (James Franco) but here, he gets pushed around all the time (before receiving powers).

So it’s come to this, ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ is not the same level as ‘Spider-Man’ but worth seeing!

'Geri's Game' is very, very clever

Posted : 10 years, 7 months ago on 6 April 2014 01:09 (A review of Geri's Game)

'Geri's Game' is very, very clever, very funny and gorgeously animated (like anything made by Pixar), in this short, Geri (Bob Peterson) plays chess against himself - he moves a white piece then walks to the other side, takes his glasses off and moves a black piece! He does the same thing over and over again so it looks like a real chess game! Then at the end the camera zooms out to show Geri on his own! Very clever!

It's so boring that my head fell back

Posted : 10 years, 7 months ago on 6 April 2014 09:52 (A review of Mazes and Monsters)

Before Tom Hanks became a massive star for 'Big', he made movies before including 'Splash', 'Bachelor Party', 'The Man With One Red Shoe' and 'The Money Pit'

'Mazes and Monsters' wasn't his first movie role ('He Knows You're Alone' was), it was his first lead role and that's the only reason I saw this movie!

What a load of crap! It's so boring that my head fell back at least three times! The title is irrelevant to the script because there are barely any mazes or monsters in this movie! And alas none of the cast are believable especially the main star himself Tom Hanks who plays Robbie Wheeling! Why is he bad in this? Well his character is always screaming for help in one of the most annoying ways and in the scene where he has blood on his hands, I wanted to yank my hair out! Not a good start Hanks!

Now I love Tom Hanks but what the f*ck is he doing here? His first lead performance is also his worst! And this is his worst movie! It was fun to see him in his first lead role but sadly the movie was overall appalling!

P.S. Tom Hanks Weekend ends here!

What a magical movie!

Posted : 10 years, 7 months ago on 5 April 2014 02:00 (A review of The Polar Express)

'The Polar Express' is one of the best animated movies of all time! It's magical, it's well animated and it's funny! It features Tom Hanks as the voice of 5 characters and the motion of the main character who gets on the Polar Express going to the North Pole, sounds interesting! What a magical movie!

Sometimes upsetting and sometimes funny

Posted : 10 years, 7 months ago on 5 April 2014 06:00 (A review of Charlie Wilson's War)

'Charlie Wilson's War' is sometimes upsetting and sometimes funny! Welcome to Tom Hanks Weekend and I'm starting by reviewing 'Charlie Wilson's War' where Tom Hanks gives one of his best performances as the title character.

The movie recounts the true story of U.S. Congressman Charlie Wilson (Hanks) who partnered with CIA operative Gust Avrakotos (Philip Seymour Hoffman) to launch Operation Cyclone, a program to organize and support the Afghan mujahideen during the Soviet war in Afghanistan.

Sadly, Philip Seymour Hoffman died at the beginning of 2014 but he was good in this! And the supporting cast (Amy Adams, Julia Roberts, Terry Bozeman) also give very good performances

Was Tom Hanks as good here as in 'Cast Away'? Definitely not! He was very good but his performance wasn't up there with 'Cast Away' or 'Captain Phillips'!

The movie has a lot of adult themes (it's a 15 just for strong language) and should've been rated 15 for drug references, nudity and brief scenes of violence! If strong language was the only reason it earned a 15, they should've re-rated it 12! I really don't see why strong language (and just swearing) would get it 15! The BBFC rated this, 'Billy Elliot', 'Up In The Air' and 'Argo' wrongly!

Even decent? Sadly not!

Posted : 10 years, 7 months ago on 3 April 2014 04:30 (A review of The Da Vinci Code)

'The Da Vinci Code' is one of the highest grossing movies ever, despite this, it is was not well received! And what did I think of it? Well when it started I didn't find it that bad! It goes on for 2 and a half hours and the final 45 minutes were dull! I didn't hate it as much as I thought I would but why does Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) have that weird hair?

'The Da Vinci Code' is pretty much a dull adaptation of the novel! As for the cast, the cast try hard (Tom Hanks, Audrey Tautou, Jean Reno, Paul Bettany) but only Ian McKellen rises above the material!

If this movie had been 2 hours long, it might not have become more average! But sadly, thanks to the last 45 minutes, it became mediocre! I didn't hate it, I didn't love it, I didn't like it though! Is it even decent? Sadly not!

Not the best movie but one of the best

Posted : 10 years, 7 months ago on 2 April 2014 04:23 (A review of Jaws (1975))

Recently I've watched the three 'Jaws' sequels and none of them were good (although 'Jaws 2' certainly wasn't horrible, it was far from being a masterpiece), but the best one (by far) is the timeless starter 'Jaws'

You can award the shark from this movie, you can eat the shark from the third movie as your starter and the forth shark for the main course! I just hate thinking about 'Jaws: The Revenge'

But anyway we're talking about the first 'Jaws' movie! The timeless classic! Based on the best selling novel, 'Jaws' is about a great white shark who eats people when they just want to swim and every time the famous music plays, you know the shark is coming to get you!

I love Steven Spielberg and his direction is really good here! He directs Roy Scheider, Robert Shaw and Richard Dreyfuss as the people searching for the shark.

The shark himself is very well designed (and obviously not a real shark) and the animation is well done (especially for that time), it's almost as good as 'King Kong' which came out in 1933! This movie came out in 1975 and is better animated but 'King Kong' came out 42 years before!

Is it safe to go in the water? Well in real life probably, but in 'Jaws 2' it has the tagline 'Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water' but 'Jaws' is fiction, in real life, probably it is safe to return to the water! 'Jaws' is not the best movie but one of the best for shore! (get it?)
