'Cast Away' is one of the best movies of 2000! Why? Well it's got a great screenplay, some great directing from Robert Zemeckis and a showcase performance from Tom Hanks
Honestly, back then Tom Hanks was a very successful actor and he gave great performances but this time, he was really on fire!
"I have made fire"
No, your performance is ON fire! Big difference!
Chuck Noland (Hanks) is a FedEx employee who is the only survivor in a plane crash, he ends up on an island with some cargo which helps him survive! Now that sounds very interesting but it was just really well written how he had to talk to a volleyball Wilson by wounding his hand, throwing a volleyball and giving it features!
Now in 95% of the movie, Tom Hanks has all the dialogue and the rest of the cast haven't many scenes at all! Wilson hasn't any dialogue but is on screen more than anyone (except Hanks of course) and I thought Tom Hanks and Wilson made arguably the best screen couple of the year!
So how does Chuck survive? Well he finds in the cargo; a party dress, ice skates, video tapes and a volleyball. The party dress comes in handy as a tent, the ice skates give Chuck the ability to split coconuts open (and later his tooth, ugh!), the video tapes come in handy at the end of his time on the island holding parts of the raft together! The volleyball becomes his best friend and becomes the second main character Wilson!
So 'Cast Away' has some gorgeous cinematography and is much more impressive than 'The Beach' for sure! But Robert Zemeckis provides some great directing!
So let's look at the supporting cast; Helen Hunt plays Chuck's girlfriend who is about to propose marriage before Chuck goes on his plane. But when Chuck returns four years later, everyone thought Chuck was dead and held a funeral!
When Chuck delivers a package, no one answers so he leaves a note saying it saved his life. He then leaves and stops at a crossroad. A woman passing by stops to explain where the roads lead. She drives away when Chuck notices the illustration on her truck is identical to the one on the parcel. Chuck is left looking down each road and then toward the departing woman in the truck. He's probably thinking that this is a fresh start! And that's a very clever idea! But overall 'Cast Away' is a masterpiece and Tom Hanks' best performance!
One of the best movies of 2000

A great movie
Posted : 10 years, 9 months ago on 29 March 2014 12:35 (A review of Schindler's List (1993))You can't hate 'Schindler's List', no way, no how! Steven Spielberg directs one of the best movies of all time 'Schindler's List', a detailed well told masterpiece about Oskar Schindler; here he's played by Liam Neeson who gives one of the top spot performances of all time! As do co-stars Ben Kingsley and Ralph Fiennes!ย
'Schindler's List' has gorgeous cinematography, amazing music, stunning sets, visionary direction and Neeson's showcase acting! It's one of the ten best movies ever! If you hate this movie then you have poor taste!

An improvement
Posted : 10 years, 9 months ago on 29 March 2014 06:48 (A review of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire)I wondered if 'Catching Fire' would be as good as the first 'Hunger Games' flick and to my surprise it turned out to be better!
'The Hunger Games' was a decent movie but it didn't hold a candle to the sequel! In 'Catching Fire', Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta Mellark (John Hutcherson) have survived the Hunger Games but they won't kill each other and later they end up entering the 75th Hunger Games! The title 'Catching Fire' says it all, the marvellous effects of flames, the epic fight scenes, the great acting and the (slightly) more convincing story made 'Catching Fire' an improvement on the original!

I wish it could continue...
Posted : 10 years, 9 months ago on 27 March 2014 09:06 (A review of Father Ted)'Father Ted' has to be one of my all time favourite shows! I love every episode from 'Good Luck, Father Ted' to 'Going To America', I love them all! And why do I love them all? I'll tell you;
Three priests Ted Crilly (Dermot Morgan), Dougal McGuire (Ardal O'Hanlon) and Jack Hackett (Frank Kelly) have been banished by Bishop Brennan (Jim Norton) to Craggy Island where they live with housekeeper Mrs Doyle (Pauline McLynn)
The title and lead character Ted is hilarious when he's on screen with Dougal or Jack; Dougal is incredibly stupid and Jack is a profanity addicted alcoholic who always shouts "Drink! Feck! Arse! Girls!" Mrs Doyle is quite hilarious too. The main characters always have funny dialogue.
And minor characters too including Father Larry Duff (Tony Guilfoyle) who is always having accidents when Ted is calling him, Father Dick Byrne (Maurice O'Donoghue); Ted's arch-nemesis on Rugged Island, Bishop Brennan; the bishop that banished the priests and hates them all, his name is Len and if Dougal calls him Len, he responds with "Don't call me Len, you little prick, I'm a bishop!" and Father Noel Furlong (Graham Norton) who is incredibly annoying but also hilarious!
The actors are just amazing especially Morgan who got the lead role after his appearances in 'The Live Mike' but sadly he died right after finishing the third series. Though everyone thinks that Morgan's death killed the 'Father Ted' series too, Morgan said he'd leave the show after the third series anyway
I wish it could continue, 'Father Ted' was so f*cking...
Sorry feckin' funny that it's impossible to forget. Only an idiot could hate 'Father Ted', only someone with no taste at all! This is one of the funniest shows ever and I wish they could do more!

Offensive but hilarious
Posted : 10 years, 9 months ago on 27 March 2014 06:55 (A review of South Park)Although 'South Park' is offensive, it's hilarious! It's set in the fictional town South Park and stars four boys including the main protagonist Stan Marsh, Kyle Broflovski; his Jewish best friend, Kenny McCormick; the unlucky one who is not only poor but used to die all the time and Eric Cartman; the obese, selfish, racist kid who insults Kyle for being Jewish and Kenny for being poor
'South Park' is famous for its crude language, humour and animation. The animation is just really funny! The characters are as weird as hell! Perhaps Cartman is the funniest character on the show, he's always frequently hilarious, Kenny's deaths are sometimes funny at other times not;
[Kenny gets hit]
Stan: Oh my god, they killed Kenny!
Kyle: You bastards!
But in 'Chef's Salty Chocolate Balls', he gets run over by people coming out a cinema and a man says "Oh my god, I've found a penny!" and his friend says "You bastard!", now that's a very clever idea!
Isaac Hayes was on 'South Park' for 8 or 9 years as the voice of Chef, the singing obese chef at South Park Elementary.
Mr Garrison is the fourth grade teacher who has his puppet Mr Hat, they have some funny dialogue ('Okay! Now let's try and get an answer from someone who's not a complete retard!')
It took 'The Simpsons' around 18 years to make a movie but 'South Park' beat them to it! 'South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut' was a commercial and critical success and I found it better than the cartoon!
I'd say that 'South Park' gave 'Family Guy' some inspiration, 'Family Guy' is like 'The Simpsons' and 'South Park' with brief flashbacks (I'll explain in my 'Family Guy' review!)
P.S. I'm reviewing 'The Simpsons' 41 reviews later!

What an amazing movie!
Posted : 10 years, 9 months ago on 26 March 2014 04:26 (A review of Romeo and Juliet)I love 'Romeo and Juliet'! What an amazing movie! The movie is based on a play written by William Shakespeare and it is just so true to the original play.
Two households, Montagues and Capulets are sworn enemies, this is interesting but what interests me more is that Romeo (a Montague) and Juliet (a Capulet) fall in love! And here they played it very well!
The costumes amaze me, the art direction too, the cast is brilliant (Leonard Whiting, Olivia Hussey, John McEnery, Milo O'Shea, Pat Heywood, Robert Stephens, Michael York, Bruce Robinson) and (especially) the dialogue is very very much like the original play!
Leonard Whiting and Olivia Hussey really shine as the main characters! They're a great screen couple and outshine the supporting cast
Now I've seen 'Romeo + Juliet' but it's not as good as this! The timeless classic 'Romeo and Juliet' is much better! This movie is much more true to the play and it's because 'Romeo + Juliet' is a modernization!
So 'Romeo and Juliet' is one of the best movies ever made and my review explains all the reasons (well most of them) that I love this movie!

It has finally jumped the shark
Posted : 10 years, 9 months ago on 25 March 2014 06:54 (A review of Horrid Henry (2006- ))I used to prefer the TV series to the books of 'Horrid Henry', the show was just funnier and more clever and came up with hilarious ideas and jokes!
But then after around 5 years, they made the awful movie adaptation and then the TV show started making a handful of references to the movie! Not just that but I could clearly tell that they were running out of ideas. They currently come up with their own ideas and by now, most of them are really lame! I now prefer the books because Francesca Simon never runs out of ideas and if the TV show 'Horrid Henry' had just turned every single story into TV, then I might still enjoy it more!
P.S. Sorry for not posting reviews recently, I've been very busy!

Has scenes of violence but still very good
Posted : 10 years, 9 months ago on 12 March 2014 04:56 (A review of Of Mice and Men)'Of Mice and Men' has scenes of violence but is still very good, it's based on John Steinbeck's novel; the main characters are George Milton (Gary Sinise) and mentally disabled Lennie Small (John Malkovich). They are both farm workers that travel together and dream of one day owning their own land. With their work passes, the two end up on Tyler Ranch. Milton finds a property for sale, and calculates that they can buy the land at the end of the month with Candy (Ray Walston)'s help.
But 'Of Mice and Men' has some scenes of violence including violent deaths; when Curley (Casey Siemaszko) hits Lennie for laughing (unintentionally) at Curley being mocked, Lennie fights back and crushes Curley's hand, if you don't want any more then I'll stop talking about it!

It's not as good as 'What's Eating Gilbert Grape' and John Malkovich is no Leonardo DiCaprio but is still great, Gary Sinise is very good in the lead role and the rest of the cast are still very good (Ray Walston, Casey Siemaszko, Sherilyn Fenn, John Terry)

Not the best Disney classic
Posted : 10 years, 9 months ago on 11 March 2014 06:51 (A review of Mulan)Iโve seen many animated movies including 'Mulan' which focuses on a young woman Mulan (Lea Salonga) whose father (Soon-Tek Oh) is old and about to fight in a war, Mulan pretends to be a man and runs away from home in order to save her father
The characters are creative, Mulan passes herself off as a man, Mushu (Eddie Murphy) is hilarious, Shang (BD Wong) is strong, Chi-Fu (James Hong) who is a protagonist but mean and even sexist. Shan Yu (Miguel Ferrer) is a very forgettable villain though to the point where I can't remember a thing about him
'Mulan' may not be the best Disney classic (Wreck-It Ralph is my favourite) but itโs still a good movie and here are some more reasons:
The animation is very good (like most Disney movies).
There are some funny scenes including Mushu burning the feathers off the evil bird and when Ling (Gedde Watanabe), Chien-Po (Jerry Tondo) and Yao (Harvey Fierstein) dress up like women in order to fight the villains
