Certainly worth seeing

Posted : 10 years, 9 months ago on 9 March 2014 10:53 (A review of Dark Shadows)

I watched it at the cinema because there was Johnny Depp in it and I heard it was scary (I love most horror movies), it was certainly scary and a brilliant horror movie, Tim Burton is a master director, I’ve seen Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Nightmare Before Christmas and Alice In Wonderland, all fantastic family films! This is one fantastic horror movies for high school students and adults, certainly worth seeing

No masterpiece but decent songs and good acting

Posted : 10 years, 9 months ago on 8 March 2014 04:14 (A review of Grease)

When 'Grease' came out, it was extremely popular but I didn’t see it until its 35th anniversary on DVD, I’m a fan of Travolta and he was giving another great performance after Saturday Night Fever alongside Olivia Newton-John, even though I’m not a big fan of this success, I think it is definitely worth watching especially if you’re a huge Travolta or Newton-John fan or if you’re a teenage girl (which I think this is aimed at) or if you like musicals

Juno review

Posted : 10 years, 9 months ago on 8 March 2014 11:48 (A review of Juno)

I doubt I would find any 2007 movie as great as 'Juno'. 'Juno' is just the best movie of 2007, in case you didn't know the plot, Juno (Elliot Page) is an independent-minded teenager confronting an unplanned pregnancy and the subsequent events that put pressures of adult life onto her.

Elliot Page was just really good in the lead role and literally stole the show from the supporting cast including Paulie (Michael Cera), Juno's friend who fathers her baby and the rest of the cast (Jennifer Garner, Jason Bateman, Allison Janney, J.K. Simmons)

Buy the soundtrack for 'Juno', the music in the movie is just top-notch, Mateo Messina is someone great at doing music

Roger Ebert called 'Juno' the best movie of 2007, he was right, I haven't even given any other 2007 movie the highest rating yet!

The Oscars were too stubborn to nominate 'Memento' for Best Picture and were bonkers to give the 1994 Oscar to 'Forrest Gump', they were also bonkers when they didn't give 'Juno' the 2007 Oscar!

'Juno' is easily the best movie of the year, hilarious, greatly written, greatly acted, greatly directed, I can't believe they let 'Disaster Movie' try to ruin it! I hate the 'Juno' spoof in 'Disaster Movie'! 'Juno' is a perfect movie as it is, we don't need the crappy directors Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer to ruin Diablo Cody and Jason Reitman's masterpiece, most of their movies are successes but they should quit while they're ahead!

Funny and interesting

Posted : 10 years, 10 months ago on 2 March 2014 08:34 (A review of A League of Their Own)

'A League of Their Own' is funny and interesting, it has a funny performance from Tom Hanks and is directed by Penny Marshall, they were both part of the team of 'Big'

The funny quote was "Are you crying? There's no crying in baseball!" which Jimmy Dugan (Tom Hanks) says when he upsets Evelyn Gardner (Bitty Schram)

I laughed at many scenes in 'A League of Their Own' and I actually rather enjoyed it, you may think that watching 'Swept Away', Madonna can't act, but she's not bad in this!

Watch 'Hugo' because it's a masterpiece

Posted : 10 years, 10 months ago on 2 March 2014 06:47 (A review of Hugo)

'Hugo' is set in 1931 and in a train station in France where a 12 year old orphan lives named Hugo (Asa Butterfield) who has to survive by stealing croissants, when an owner of a toy booth (Ben Kingsley) finds out he's been stealing, Hugo soon meets his god-daughter Isabelle (Chloe Grace Moretz) but if Hugo is caught by the Station Inspector (Sacha Baron Cohen), he'll go to the orphanage

While the story is great, most adults may know who Ben Kingsley is but probably not who George Melies is, but we soon learn some things about George Melies and the first movies

George Melies directed 'A Trip To The Moon' a 9 to 18 minute movie in which a rocket flies into the eye of the man in the moon, but don't watch 'Hugo' just to see that, watch 'Hugo' because it's a masterpiece because you don't see much of 'A Trip To The Moon' at all

A massive improvement on the original

Posted : 10 years, 10 months ago on 1 March 2014 06:42 (A review of The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers)

My expectations of 'The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers' were average because I didn't really care for the first one, to my surprise, I liked it much more

A massive improvement on the original, 'The Two Towers' is scarier, darker and more interesting than 'The Fellowship of the Ring', I just thought it was really clever how here there were different stories including Frodo (Elijah Wood) and Sam (Sean Astin) being joined by Gollum (Andy Serkis) while they're on their journey to Mordor to destroy the One Ring

Gandalf (Ian McKellen)'s lack of screen time didn't bother me a lot and the battle scenes completely blew me away and while only the first hour of the first movie was great, here, I was completely impressed by all three hours which says a lot

My expectations for 'The Return of the King' are really high and I hope I will enjoy it (at least) as much as I enjoyed this one

Nowhere near as good as the original

Posted : 10 years, 10 months ago on 28 February 2014 05:07 (A review of Babe: Pig in the City)

'Babe: Pig In The City' was on TV and since I loved 'Babe' (especially when I was 5 or 6), I decided to check out the sequel, despite mixed reviews and a box office failure, Roger Ebert and Gene Siskel both gave it a thumbs up with Ebert awarding it four stars (out of four)

In my opinion, what a waste of time! Bland story, bad directing, gross effects, incredibly annoying unfunny characters, awful acting, nowhere near as good as the original, too scary for kids and too boring, annoying and childish for grown-ups

'Outnumbered' has finally jumped the shark

Posted : 10 years, 10 months ago on 25 February 2014 09:25 (A review of Outnumbered)

'Outnumbered' has finally jumped the shark, they're currently on their last season which is also their worst, the first and second seasons were absolutely hysterical, the third season was very funny, the forth season was just funny and not as good as the first three but with the fifth series, they completely messed up and I probably will not be watching any more new episodes of 'Outnumbered', I'll probably just stick with my favourites!

Terrific effects and some classic music

Posted : 10 years, 10 months ago on 21 February 2014 09:25 (A review of 2001: A Space Odyssey)

'2001: A Space Odyssey' contains terrific effects and some classic music, the effects are great even though this movie was made in 1968, they've been a tad updated but the effects here were just mind blowing

The music is unforgettable and the plot is good, the acting is very solid as well, the effects were mind blowing in the scene where the planet kept changing colours, that was even better when it was made!

I just didn’t enjoy ‘Hook’

Posted : 10 years, 10 months ago on 19 February 2014 05:45 (A review of Hook)

I just didn’t enjoy ‘Hook’. Why? I thought the plot was really silly; Peter Pan – the hero who never grows old – has grown up! He’s become Peter Banning (Robin Williams) and he has two children and a wife

I thought Captain Hook (Dustin Hoffman) had been eaten by a crocodile while Peter was still a boy, well now he’s returned along with Smee (Bob Hoskins) and all the other pirates, he’s even killed the goddam crocodile that ate him!

‘Hook’ had some pretty good costume designing, and art direction too, Never Land looked good and the effects weren’t bad, I even found some jokes funny

But I thought there was some pretty pathetic slapstick and jokes, there was even this one scene where Tinkerbell (Julia Roberts) went from being the size of an ant to becoming human sized, most of the performances in this movie are terrible, Dustin Hoffman tries hard but Robin Williams is actually pretty obnoxious, Bob Hoskins gives a rather bland performance, but at least they’re not as annoying as Julia Roberts! She definitely gave one of the most annoying performances of all time!

We do see Peter realise he is Peter Pan when he sees Wendy, John, Michael and his names carved on a tree, we then realise that Wendy (Maggie Smith) became older and soon forgot how to fly, she had a granddaughter who Peter fell in love with, this is presumably how he became old, but didn’t Peter love Wendy? In case you knew nothing about ‘Peter Pan’, Peter falls in love with Wendy! And they changed it! Why did they do it?
