Not the best comedy ever made
Posted : 10 years, 5 months ago on 8 August 2014 08:30 (A review of Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa)'Alan Partidge' is a good comedy but could do without some scenes of dullness. It had some pretty good chuckles but they could've cut out some of the most boring minutes and I would've liked it more. Not the best comedy ever made.

Guess Who's Coming To Good Showcase
Posted : 10 years, 6 months ago on 3 August 2014 03:28 (A review of Guess Who's Coming to Dinner)Guess Who's Coming To Good Showcase! 'Guess Who's Coming To Dinner' is an overrated classic but still features Spencer Tracy and his co-stars and their great performances, an interesting plot and the heartwarming song 'Glory of Love'. It is not one of my favourite movies but I still think it is worth seeing.

A nice surprise
Posted : 10 years, 6 months ago on 2 August 2014 02:14 (A review of Now You See Me)'Now You See Me' was a nice surprise in my opinion. The action scenes are too weird but the cast is great, the plot is clever and the script is funny. I also loved seeing Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine with big parts reuniting after 'The Dark Knight'. Better than some of the junk in 2013.

I like it but it lacks the interest of other work.
Posted : 10 years, 6 months ago on 29 July 2014 04:24 (A review of How to Train Your Dragon 2 (2014))My first review on Listal was 'How To Train Your Dragon'. I really liked that movie. This is a good movie too but lacks the interest in 'Shrek', 'Kung-Fu Panda', 'How To Train Your Dragon (the first one)' and even 'Antz'
'How To Train Your Dragon 2' is set five years after 'How To Train Your Dragon' and is more adult. This seems like a violent and scary approach to DreamWorks Animation. I like it but it lacks the interest of other work. Still I like the cast ensemble, I find the plot remotely interesting, the animation is amazing as usual. And this movie is good enough for now. 2014 is lacking in movies for me to see (because of all the sequels [to movies I haven't seen] and kiddie movies) but this is better than 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' and 'Godzilla'

Posted : 10 years, 6 months ago on 24 July 2014 06:33 (A review of Monsters, Inc.)We Scare. Because We Care. We Delight. Not Just At Night. 'Monsters Inc.' is the fourth Pixar movie and better than 'A Bug's Life'. The movie centers around a giant blue monster Sulley (John Goodman) and his best friend Mike (Billy Crystal) who live in Monstropolis and work at Monsters Incorporated. Sulley's job is to scare kids to generate their city's power. Kids are scared of them but monsters are also scared of kids. Sulley ends up facing a toddler who he names Boo (Mary Gibbs) who ends up in Monstropolis.
The movie has funny characters such as Randall (Steve Buscemi) the chameleon who can change colour and Mr Waternoose (James Coburn). The movie also has its clever plot and like any other Pixar movies is a delight for kids and adults. This ain't the top of Pixar but still great.

The most disturbing 12 movie
Posted : 10 years, 6 months ago on 17 July 2014 08:23 (A review of The Boy in the Striped Pajamas)'The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas' covers the horror of the World War II Nazi extermination camp. I wasn't expecting something this disturbing or unpleasant. This is the most disturbing 12 rated movie I've ever seen.
The movie focuses on 8 year old Bruno (Asa Butterfield) who has to move to Poland with his family as his father Ralf (David Thewlis) has been promoted to SS-Obersturmbannführer Commandant. At his new home, he meets 8 year old Shmuel (Jack Scanlon), a Jewish prisoner.
The movie ends where Bruno tries to help Shmuel find his father and digs under the fence blocking them off, disguised as a Jew. Bruno sees the truth about the camp after seeing sick weak resembling Jews. Ralf, Elsa (Vera Farmiga) and Gretel (Amber Beattie) go to look for him. The boys and the other prisoners end up in a changing room and are told to take their clothes off for a "shower" which is actually a gassing. Ralf cries out Bruno's name and Elsa and Gretel fall to their knees and sob loudly. The movie finishes showing an empty gas chamber . This is a very disturbing scene. The most disturbing in the movie.
I said it's the most disturbing 12 rated movie I've ever seen. And I don't think most kids would be able to watch this kind of movie. I think that 15 would be an appropriate certificate.

One of the funniest movies of the year
Posted : 10 years, 6 months ago on 16 July 2014 08:01 (A review of The Grand Budapest Hotel)2014 is making a comeback with masterpieces like 'The Lego Movie' and 'The Grand Budapest Hotel'. 'The Grand Budapest Hotel' is one of the funniest movies of the year.
Ralph Fiennes does a hilarious job on screen and is on screen 95% of the time with another famous actor like Willem Dafoe, Adrien Brody, Jeff Goldblum or Owen Wilson. The ensemble cast is great!
'The Grand Budapest Hotel' is constantly funny but contains dark images of severed body parts! Do not be alarmed, it's not for very long, but I wasn't expecting it. Of course it said in the 15 certificate though. Laugh hard at this movie! I did!

The best animated movie since 'Wreck-It Ralph'
Posted : 10 years, 6 months ago on 16 July 2014 04:09 (A review of Frozen)"Let it go!" said Elsa (Idina Menzel). I said "No don't! Don't let go of your Oscars! Because 'Frozen' is the best animated movie since 'Wreck-It Ralph', an Oscar losing masterpiece!"
I don't care what idiots are going to say, 'Frozen' is the icicle masterpiece! It's 100 times better than the 'Ice Age' quadrology. 'Frozen' is like King Midas. King Midas received a golden touch. Elsa received a frozen touch.
While Pixar are currently lacking in creativity (I'm talking to you 'Brave' and 'Monsters University'), Walt Disney Animations are getting better at writing great movies! 'Wreck-It Ralph' was better than 'Brave' (by like 500 miles). 'Frozen' is better than 'Monsters University' (by like 100 miles). Yes, Pixar had their go at at Disney Princess movie and it was disappointing. Walt Disney Animations have the wide variety of great Disney Princesses including Snow White (Adriana Caselotti), Belle (Paige O'Hara), Mulan (Ming-Na) and now Anna (Kristen Bell) and Elsa.
The voice cast are charming and we see the return of Alan Tudyk who appeared in an Annie winning performance in 'Wreck-It Ralph' as King Candy. Now he plays the Duke of Weselton.
The characters in this movie are loveable, Olaf (Josh Gad) the snow guy, is the most hilarious of all. Elsa is the creative one with her icy powers and etc.
'Frozen' won the Oscar, BAFTA, Golden Globe, Critic's Choice Award and Annie for Best Animated Feature. With this kind of movie, we can't let it go. The song 'Let It Go' is so memorable (and kids at school know it so well)
Note to Disney, don't ruin 'Wreck-It Ralph' or 'Frozen' with direct-to-DVD Disney sequels, make great sequels, or quit while you're ahead. You can't ruin these two masterpieces! Perhaps, a 'Wreck-It Ralph' sequel where Felix (Jack McBrayer) is bored of his job and there's a Hero-Anon Support Group with maybe Mario (absent from the first one), Sonic, Pacman and all the other video game heroes!
Disney has become classic. It was there at the start, it will be there at the end. We're less than 10 years away from the 100th anniversary. Guard it well and keep up the good work! I can't wait to get a taste of Disney's other movies

A good movie
Posted : 10 years, 6 months ago on 14 July 2014 02:51 (A review of Rocky)Sylvester Stallone does a good job with 'Rocky' and he writes the last third of it very well. Unfortunately, the last third is good but isn't helped by the first two thirds.
The movie focuses on a boxer Rocky (Stallone) who really just spends plain simple days in Philadelphia. You barely seem him box in the movie at all but Stallone's performance is pretty good. The first two thirds were just plainly obvious. But to my surprise, the last third was brilliant! The last third featured the classic 'Rocky' music and some impressive boxing (although there is boxing at the beginning, most of this movie hasn't any fighting at all)
Rocky fights against his apponent Apollo (Carl Weathers) and they don't even care about the results which is actually one of the best endings ever. In 'Superman', I was disappointed by the lack of Superman, although Clark Kent (Christopher Reeve) is in most of the movie, he hardly ever appears as Superman. In 'Rocky', I think the same, although Rocky is in 99% of it (if not 100%), he hardly boxes.
'Rocky' is good but did it really deserve the Oscar for Best Picture?

One of the best video games
Posted : 10 years, 6 months ago on 13 July 2014 08:10 (A review of New Super Mario Bros. Wii)A great game for Mario die-hards. The concepts of the 8 different worlds (Mushroom, Desert, Winter, Beach, Jungle, Rock, Cloud and Lava) was awesome and better done than in the previous 'New Super Mario Bros.' (the DS game). The final level in which Bowser became 10 times his enormous size and breathed fire at Mario was amazing and the concept of the Yoshis assisting the protagonists was also really good. Play it, enjoy it. One of the best video games.
