An average movie

Posted : 9 years, 10 months ago on 31 December 2014 05:42 (A review of How the Grinch Stole Christmas)

'How the Grinch Stole Christmas' isn't the best family film, but Jim Carrey shines as the Grinch, and the film is very visually appealing. The film does have some of the charm of the book, and while a little creepy, it's still better than 'The Cat in the Hat', and the innuendos in this film are nowhere near as bad as that movie!

My favourite 'Indiana Jones' movie

Posted : 9 years, 10 months ago on 30 December 2014 06:13 (A review of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade)

'Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade' is my favourite 'Indiana Jones' movie! I love the action and the acting as usual but I was amazed by the scenes involving the Nazis. Like the previous movie, there's life threatening fire but I think I like this the best of the series! As usual Harrison Ford is great as Indiana Jones and is joined by an entertaining Sean Connery! The script about the Nazis is also mind-blowing! If you loved the first two, this is definitely a must-see!

'Romeo & Juliet', 'Toy Story', gnomes and unfunny

Posted : 9 years, 10 months ago on 30 December 2014 10:24 (A review of Gnomeo & Juliet)

'Gnomeo & Juliet' is a mixture between 'Romeo & Juliet', Toy Story', gnomes and unfunny jokes. It's not a bad movie but it lacks funny jokes, a gnome in a mankini (inspired by 'Borat') seems unsuitable for children and a fight across a lawn with a ยฃ1000 turbo lawnmower!

Where 'Romeo & Juliet' comes in is enemy gnomes (colourism) and a blue gnome (Gnomeo) falling for a red gnome (Juliet) and red gnome Tybalt despising Gnomeo. Where 'Toy Story' comes in is the gnomes come to life when no humans are around. It's not a rip-off of 'Toy Story', it's just a mediocre counterpart!

I liked the scene where Benny dances on a computer purchasing an expensive lawn mower but when Tybalt dies crashing into a wall, at the end of the movie, he comes back having been put back together (somehow)!

This is a British animated movie and a wasted opportunity to make a rare good one like 'Wallace & Gromit', 'Chicken Run', 'Corpse Bride' or 'Fantastic Mr Fox'. This just isn't funny enough.

Complicated but heartwarming plot

Posted : 9 years, 10 months ago on 30 December 2014 09:42 (A review of Arthur Christmas)

'Arthur Christmas' has a complicated but heartwarming plot. The animation (Aardman's second CGI attempt after 'Flushed Away') looks quite good, the score is absolutely beautiful. The movie is heartwarming and entertaining enough for kids and adults!

Not as good as the first one but still great fun

Posted : 9 years, 10 months ago on 29 December 2014 06:15 (A review of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom)

Did you know that 95% of sequels are critical failures? Not this one, this is a great sequel! 'Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom is not as good as the first one but still great fun!

The movie keeps its amazing visual style, action and acting, it certainly is darker than the original and shows many heart rip outs! Still Harrison Ford and the rest of the cast shine, the art direction is still brilliant and Steven Spielberg's direction is outstanding!

Seems like 'Despicable Me' to me

Posted : 9 years, 10 months ago on 29 December 2014 03:00 (A review of Megamind (2010))

It is fairly entertaining but 'Megamind' seems like 'Despicable Me' to me! A villain has machines and murder weapons and then becomes a good guy - 'Despicable Me'. Despite its lack of originality, it has great animation and decent voice acting and is still something kids will like but it will mean more to kids than grown-ups and if you're a grown-up, probably better you watch a Pixar movie instead!

Endless fun

Posted : 9 years, 10 months ago on 29 December 2014 12:58 (A review of Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981))

'Raiders of the Lost Ark' is one of the best action movies of all time! The plot is entertaining, the script is funny and epic, the performances by the cast (especially Harrison Ford, the guy who played Han Solo in 'Star Wars', as Indiana Jones, himself) are great! The visual style is also amazing! The art direction looks attractive, then again, lots of art direction proves it's possible in real life (and maybe also dangerous). The visual effects are eye-popping and the costume design looks brilliant! The action itself is funny, non-stop entertainment! A great action movie for everyone! Endless fun!

An improvement over the third movie

Posted : 9 years, 10 months ago on 27 December 2014 09:48 (A review of Shrek Forever After)

'Shrek' ends here! 'Shrek Forever After' is an improvement over the third movie and a decent end to the franchise. I loved the first 'Shrek', I really liked the second, the third was disappointing and this one wasn't as good as the first two but still better than the third! The plot is fairly entertaining about Shrek (Mike Myers) wishing his life would go back to when he hadn't made friends with Donkey (Eddie Murphy) and hadn't rescued Fiona (Cameron Diaz) only to learn what bad this brings him. It's not up there with 'Shrek' or 'How To Train Your Dragon' but still decent.

A great movie

Posted : 9 years, 10 months ago on 27 December 2014 06:42 (A review of The Avengers)

'The Avengers' is a crossover movie between Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), who team up to stop Thor's brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston) from stopping Earth. It's one of the best superhero movies ever!

'The Avengers' features some of the best visual effects I've ever seen, the plotting is smart and the whole visual style is something you can't take your eyes off! I still prefer 'The Dark Knight' but 'The Avengers' is one of my top five favourite superhero movies! It doesn't surprise me it's the third highest grossing film ever made (unadjusted for inflation)

Perfect to watch when it's raining

Posted : 9 years, 10 months ago on 26 December 2014 03:50 (A review of Singin' in the Rain (1952))

'Singin' In The Rain' is considered one of the best musicals of all time! Indeed! The plot is excellent about mouthing songs disguised with a more beautiful voice! The musical numbers are unforgettable and the actors are magnificent! 'Singin' In The Rain' is perfect to watch when it's raining, a magnificent musical!
